Award Winning Cornish Pasties

Onward to Japan

The 2025 Best Pasty win at the British Pie Awards opened an unexpected door. Phat has since taken its pasties to Japan, appearing at the British Fair in Osaka in partnership with Hankyu, introducing one of Cornwall's most tightly protected regional foods to a Japanese audience, a genuinely full circle moment for a product that started life feeding miners underground and has ended up in department store food halls on the other side of the world.Hand-crimping over 1,000 pasties per day, the Japanese visitors loved the steak pasties, with over 10,000 pasties being sold in just one week.

What Makes Phat a Champion Cornish Pasty

Awards are the proof, but the reason Phat keeps winning them comes down to what goes on before the crimp is ever pressed.

  • British Red Tractor assured steak, never a lesser cut or trim, in every traditional pasty

  • A meat content well above the 12.5 percent PGI minimum, giving a heartier, more generous filling than the standard sets

  • Locally sourced potatoes and swede, kept chunky rather than diced fine, so the vegetables hold their own texture through baking

  • Onions sliced rather than chopped, for a proper depth of flavour through the filling

  • Every pasty hand crimped in the traditional style, no machine pressed edges, in a robust shortcrust pastry built to hold its shape from oven to hand

It is this combination, proper meat content, honest local vegetables, and hand craft at the crimp, that has taken Phat from a kitchen table in Falmouth to World, Global and British Pie Award titles.

How Phat Sources and Certifies Every Pasty

Awards matter, but what goes into a Phat pasty matters more. Every product is built on a clear, non negotiable sourcing standard.

Red Tractor Meat

All meat used across the Phat range is British Red Tractor assured, tracing every cut back to standards on food safety, animal welfare and environmental protection.

Vegetarian Society Approved

Every vegetarian and plant based product carries full Vegetarian Society approval and accreditation, independently checked rather than self declared. The Vegetarian Societies Trademarks for both vegetarian and plant-based are now recognised to signify the quality standards required for customers looking for a meat-free option.

Soil Association Members

Phat is a proud Soil Association member, supporting the organisation's wider work on food quality, farming standards and sustainability, alongside Food for Life accreditation. Phat were the first Cornish Pasty company to gain this membership and have been members since 2010.

B Corp Certified

Phat Pasty Co is the only Cornish pasty company to hold B Corp accreditation, meeting independently verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. In 2026 Phat also became an Employee Owned Trust (EOT) and this enables the team to work towards future ownership of the company whilst the founders help, support and nurture the transition.

Made in Cornwall Accredited

Phat is able to display and claim adherence to the PGI trademark scheme and holds Made in Cornwall accreditation, a trademark run by Cornwall Trading Standards in association with Shop Cornish, confirming every Cornish pasty is genuinely produced in the county under the protected recipe and method.
